Diva Day a Huge Success for Local Organization London ON – The London and District Distress Centre held its 8th Annual Diva Day on Sunday March 6, 2011 at London’s Windermere Manor. The event is the core fundraiser for the Distress Centre, which provides empathetic listening to callers; 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All funds raised go towards the recruiting, training and maintaining our call volunteers. This years event raised over $25 000. “A sold out event – its overwhelming,” says Bill Diver, Executive Director of the Distress Centre. “The community continues to support the Distress Centre’s efforts to provide anyone who is worried, sad, scared, or in crisis; 24/7 telephone support.” Over 100 Divas participated in the afternoon event at Windermere Manor. Divas were treated to sessions that ranged from chocolate and wine tastings, manicures and pedicures, to yoga and massage therapy. The Divas were able to relax and enjoy the soothing atmosphere of Windermere as they sipped on cocktails and sampled hors d’oeuvres. One Diva says, “It was nice to have an afternoon just for me. I was able to de-stress and to try new therapies that I hadn’t had the chance to before. “ In the last year the Distress Centre has handled over 17 000 calls from the London and Middlesex area.
